Eurecat participated in the ESTEP Annual Event 2025, where the research and industrial community gathered in Udine, Italy, from 28 to 30 October to explore the future of a sustainable European steel industry. Hosted by Danieli Automation and the University of Udine, this year’s edition focused on how decarbonisation, digitisation and circular solutions are shaping the steel sector’s transformation.
The ESTEP Annual Event 2025 aimed at bringing together the European steel community to explore research and innovation in decarbonisation, digitisation, and circular solutions that will define the sustainable future of the European steel industry. Achievements, challenges, and future perspectives were examined through contributions from a wide range of European steelmaking stakeholders, alongside presentations of ongoing projects under the Clean Steel Partnership.
The three-day programme combined technical insights with opportunities for industrial engagement, beginning with an optional visit to the Acciaierie Bertoli Safau (ABS) plant, followed by two days of technical sessions. Discussions centred on key themes including circular economy approaches, resource and energy efficiency, and strategies to support social innovation and upskilling within the sector.
During the event, Jaume Pujante, CISMA Technical Coordinator and researcher at the Metallic and Ceramic Unit at Eurecat, presented the project’s virtual poster titled “CiSMA: Circular steel for mass market applications”. The poster highlighted CISMA’s work on developing and validating circular pathways for steel use, supporting the sector’s transition toward more sustainable and resource-efficient solutions.
By presenting CISMA at the ESTEP Annual Event, Eurecat strengthened the project’s visibility within the European steel innovation ecosystem and engaged with stakeholders committed to accelerating the shift toward a circular, low-carbon steel value chain.
