CiSMA was mentioned during a presentation by Dr Klaus Peters, Secretary General of ESTEP, at AISTech 2026, held in Pittsburgh, USA, on 4-6 May 2026.
The presentation, titled “EU Steel at the 2026 Crossroads: Insights from the Clean Steel Partnership and ESTEP”, offered an overview of European initiatives supporting the transition towards cleaner, more circular and more competitive steel production.
Within this context, CiSMA was presented as part of the wider Clean Steel Partnership portfolio addressing the use of scrap in steelmaking. The project was highlighted alongside other European initiatives working to optimise scrap quality, improve scrap usage and support the development of more sustainable steel production routes.
The presentation also referred to the Scrap Cluster Workshop organised at ESTEP in April 2025, where CiSMA joined other projects focused on scrap valorisation and circular steelmaking. CiSMA project was also included as one of the examples of work towards standardisation within the Clean Steel Partnership.
The project was described as focusing on high-quality sheet steel production from 100% scrap-based electric arc furnace routes, with the aim of reducing CO₂ emissions compared to conventional production methods. The presentation underlined CiSMA’s work on managing residual elements such as copper, improving scrap quality and developing digital tools, with validation through pilot trials in the automotive and white goods sectors.
The mention of CiSMA at AISTech 2026 provided valuable international visibility for the project and its contribution to the transformation of the European steel sector.
