ESTEP (European Steel Technology Platform), located in Belgium, brings together major stakeholders in the European steel industry. Its members are steel companies, RTOs, universities and research institutions active in steel research, users of steel, such as car manufacturers, plant builders, suppliers and public bodies such as the European Commission.
ESTEP aims to engage in collaborative EU actions and projects on technology, addressing European challenges to create a sustainable EU steel industry. As the facilitator of the Clean Steel Partnership (CSP), ESTEP plays a central role in this European co-programmed public-private partnership. The CSP was established between ESTEP, representing the private sector, and the European Commission under Cluster 4 (Digital, Industry, and Space) of the Horizon Europe funding programme, along with the Research Fund for Coal and Steel. The CSP primarily defines decarbonisation pathways, with the overarching goals of decarbonising the European steel sector, transforming it into a sustainable and circular industry.
Contribution to CiSMA
ESTEP participates in the communication and dissemination activities, as well as the pre-standardization activities. ESTEP will share the overarching knowledge on the challenges faced by the steel sector to become climate neutral and stay competitive, as well as the related technology pathways. ESTEP also leverages its extended network of partners and collaborators across Europe to conduct cross-fertilisation activities and disseminate the results of the project.
